Confident Mums is a group for pregnant women and mothers with at least one child under 4 years old who want to learn more about maintaining healthy adult relationships around their babies and children.

About Confident Mums

A drop-in group support service for mothers and mothers-to-be who:

  • May have concerns and worries about their relationship and/or just want to learn more about building healthy relationships.
  • Would like to explore the signs of unhealthy relationships.
  • Want to be more aware and confident with parenting in a healthy environment.
  • Are concerned about potential risks of violence to themselves, abuse or feel vulnerable.
  • May be lacking in confidence, feel isolated or need support.

How will Confident Mums support you?

Confident Mums aims to raise awareness of the impact of healthy and unhealthy relationships around babies and children and to enhance women’s overall confidence and their parenting skills.

How does Confident Mums work?

  • Confident Mums is a flexible rolling programme.
  • Women can 'drop in' or self-refer or professionals can refer (if the referral is from a professional a phone call or referral form is preferred).
  • There is a crèche (usually for children six months plus) provided so women have the space and time to talk without the demands of child-care.

What happens when you attend Confident Mums?

The group is designed to be a relaxed, therapeutic experience, where knowledge is shared with fun, creativity and laughter.

The group is weekly and set in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space, where mothers are provided with refreshments and can share thoughts and feelings, learn from each other and the service materials.

Each person builds her own learning and is free to use the creative activities of games and art, as well as gain AQA certificates for units of learning when a module has been completed to add to their portfolio.

The group is facilitated by two experienced female facilitators who carefully support the group through a transitional process of personal development.

What are the benefits of attending Confident Mums?

  • Increased understanding of the effects of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
  • Understanding the impact of these relationships on parenting and child-development and childhood security.
  • Increased confidence of parent‚Äôs and knowledge of good parenting skills.
  • Building friendships and support networks.
  • Increased socialisation and social skills.
  • Preparation of child for non-parent childcare.

NB: Confident Mums facilitators can signpost mothers to Gaia enhanced 1-1 support or to the ‘Safer Stronger’ group if mothers agree this is appropriate.
