LEAP NEWS - LEAP help to raise mental health awareness in NHS film
We're really excited to be part of Mental Health 4 Life, a new online learning resource funded by NHS England to support mental health and well-being.
Free to access and easy to use, Mental Health 4 Life will help anyone wanting to create better mental heath for themselves, their families and their communities. Divided into 10 modules with easy to follow infographics, films and case studies, it draws on a wide range of professional and personal experiences – from mental health prevention specialists to parents and local government councillors - who help to break down stigma around mental health and promote early intervention.
LEAP were invited to make a film for the resource specifically for parents and put forward Project Director Laura McFarlane and Parent Champion Laura Sathi to discuss parental mental health including baby attachment, positive parenting and support for parents. Watch the video below.
Laura McFarlane explains: “LEAP were delighted to be part of Mental Health 4 Life. We are committed to supporting women’s well-being during pregnancy and birth and as they develop their relationship with their new baby. Laura and I were pleased to share the importance of preventing poor mental health and helping mothers, fathers and carers to develop the skills and confidence to support each other and develop strong and empowered communities.”
Laura and LEAP’s Co Production Lead Viviana attended the launch of the resource at the House of Lords on the 11th November 2015.
One in four adults and one in ten children in the UK are likely to have a mental health problem in any given year and it’s estimated that only about a quarter of people with a mental health problem receive ongoing treatment.* Mental Health 4 Life is a valuable tool to offer support and spread awareness at a time when ill-informed attitudes around mental health still exist, and can make it hard for people to seek help.
